Empowering you to take charge of your own health by tackling the root cause of illness.

The last 30 years have seen an increasing rise in chronic diseases associated with our lifestyle and environment. Busier lives with increased stress levels associated with changes in technology, expectations in the workplace as well as family and social dynamics all play a key part.

With this shift in how illness presents, I believe it is time to adopt a more holistic individualised approach to health care using the delivery of lifestyle medicine and evidence-based health coaching so that we can prevent or reverse the progression of disease.

The SMART (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, Time-based) tool to goal setting has been well established in many industries but is often under-utilised in the health care setting. By using this guide, alongside my extensive medical experience and special interest in lifestyle medicine I aim to evoke sustainable lifestyle change through a supportive process of behaviour change.

Dr Akshay Bhanshaly

MBBS, MRCGP, DRCOG, IBLM

GP, Lifestyle Medic Practitioner and Certified Health Coach

I have been fortunate to work as a medical doctor within the NHS for the past 17 years. The experience I have gained throughout this period from thousands of interactions with patients both in a hospital setting working in various specialities and in general practice has given me an insight into the importance of a holistic individualised approach when treating each individual. I have seen time and time again how a quick-fix and reactive approach to dealing with chronic ill health can yield worse outcomes long-term.

My philosophy is based on seeking out the root cause of an individual’s medical problems and working with each client so that they are empowered to reach their own individual health goals.

In addition to my usual General Practice role, I also currently work in Escalated Covid-19 Community Hubs as well as an Urgent GP Access Clinic. My experience in these various roles has cemented my belief in the importance of lifestyle medicine in the promotion of healthy ageing and treatment of chronic disease to reduce susceptibility to illness.
